Advice Needed!

Hi blog friends,
I need your help! Clark and I are debating whether or not to take childbirth classes at Springhill Medical Center and want to know what you think. Has anyone taken the classes there? Are childbirth classes helpful?? I really want us to know what all is going to happen once I go into labor, but we are so busy right now and the classes take up so much time! 3 hours a week for 4 weeks! I have heard mixed opinions about childbirth classes...some people LOVE them and others find them a waste of time. I am curious to see what my readers think :)

Thanks for your help,
Jill

hey! well, i didnt take them, but after reading we kinda knew everything that was happening (or i knew and was telling stephen). i dont know what those classes help with - maybe breathing?? im sure someone who took them will be able to tell you! :)

We did them and laughed like a pair of middle school students the whole time. Practicing blowing on feathers and watching troy change a baby doll was just a little too much for me. You've been around your nephews plenty and you have tons of great friends and family - just read a book and you'll be fine! I did think my breastfeeding class was worthwhile - I think it was only one night.

ps - troy did seem to learn something about his role during the whole process but ya'll could talk about that and be fine!

My brother in law is doing it with his wife and they seem to be enjoying it. He seems to be learning his role as well. They also said it has been funny!

Hey Jill! We didn't take any classes and did just fine. The nurses are there to help you with whatever you need.

hey Jill! Justin and I took all the classes here in New Orleans. The only one worth anything was the breastfeeding class! I would HIGHLY recommend one if you plan to breastfeed...it really will ease your fear of the whole process :)

hi jill. brian and i didn't take any classses. i had someone come to the house (well mostly because brian and i never were good "students") she came over, talked to me about my fears, explained what i didn't know (but i knew a lot from risa) and that was about it. no need for class - just talk to dana and me. and your nurse tells you what to do!! (and when to do it) so don't you worry! you can ask me ANYTHING! i promise!

We didn't take them either! For the same reason, it was expensive and we didnt have time. Plus, from what I had heard, you can learn everything you need to know without them. Read What to Expect When You're Expecting and talk to Clark about it and you'll be fine! IF you WANT to take them, I'm sure it cant hurt and it might be funny... but i doubt it's a necessity!

We did take the classes because I don't think that Jason had ever even seen a baby before Hannah. I didn't learn anything that I hadn't already read in a book, but again, it was helpful for Jason because he wouldn't read the books. Like everyone else, I do recommend the breastfeeding class, and Jason stayed home for that one :)
