A Gift From Rose

I can't believe it but...

Rose slept through the night last night!!! I fed her at 7:30, gave her a bath at 8:15, and she was sound asleep in her Daddy's arms by 8:30. Clark put her down but around 9:30 she woke back up. So, I nursed her back to sleep and she slept all the way until 5:00 AM!!! Yay Rose! I heard her on the monitor a few times last night but each time she fell back asleep. Finally, at 5:00, I went to check on her and she was just laying there wide awake sweet as can be. Let's hope she will continue sleeping through the night! Her Mama sure does appreciate it :)

Here are a few pictures of Rose and her friends. She went to lunch with Meryl and Bennett yesterday but we forgot to take a picture of the babies together. We'll have to remember next time!

Tummy Time

Rose has been spending some time on her tummy recently. Clark and I were so excited when she lifted her head and turned it to the other side a few weeks ago. She has really strenghtened the muscles in her neck and is a pro at turning her little head from side to side. Here are a few pictures of Rose demonstrating her new trick!

Valentine's Weekend

Weekends are so much fun now that little Rose is here. Clark and I thought our social life would change a lot once Rose was born, but we've realized she's really easy to take places. Friday night, we went over to Bryant and B's house for dinner. Rose was great and slept in her carrier for a few hours. After dinner, we woke her up and everyone had fun playing with her. Especially Michael...they are best friends now!

On Saturday, I spent the day with Mom. We did a little shopping, went out to lunch, visited a friend, and caught up on much needed quality time. Mom has been working so hard selling real estate and it was awesome to finally have a whole day to spend with her. Thanks Mom!! Rose and I had a blast.

When I finally came home last night around 6:30, Clark surprised us with a gourmet Valentine's dinner! Since the weather was so nice, he set the table outside on our side porch. Clark thought of every detail...he even lit candles! It was so sweet. On the menu: flank steak, lobster, saffron rice, salad, and french bread. It was so yummy! Rose was an angel and relaxed in her papasan chair while we ate. Thanks Clark for being such a thoughtful husband...I love you so much! Rose and I are lucky to have you :)I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Next on the agenda...MARDI GRAS!!

Meet Daniel Asa Dennis IV

Congratulations to Maribeth and Daniel on the birth of beautiful Daniel Asa Dennis! Asa is absolutely gorgeous and perfect! He has TONS of thick black hair and the most perfect little features. I think he has Maribeth's nose and mouth and Daniel's eyes. Maribeth and Daniel are on cloud 9 and loving life with their new little bundle. I have been friends with Maribeth since we were little bitty girls. She is such a dear friend and I know she is going to be an amazing Mommy! She is so gentle and loving, and Asa is so lucky to have her and Daniel for parents. We are looking forward to lots of play dates and maybe "real dates" once the babies are much much older :) I love that Rose and Asa are exactly 1 month apart. I hope they will have lots of fun playing together in the years to come.

1 Month Update

My how time flies!! Clark and I have loved every minute of life with Rose during her first month. During this month, Rose has started noticing the world around her. During her awake time she loves playing on her Baby Einstein activity mat, listening to music, listening to Mommy sing, going on strolls, riding in the car, studying people's faces, and taking baths. She actually likes getting her hair washed! I hope she will always like taking baths as much as I do.

Rose is still sleeping great! During the day, she takes naps anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours between feedings. At night, she usually goes about 4-5 hours between feedings. Last night, she slept in her crib for the first time. She ate at 8:30, went to bed around 10, woke up to eat at 2:45, and then slept until her next feeding at 6:45. I can't complain!!
We had a very successful 1 month check up. The most exciting part was learning that Rose weighs a whopping 10 pounds, 4 ounces and is in the 90th percentile for weight! She has gained almost 1 pound each week! That made me very proud because we got off to a rocky start and it is fabulous to hear that our hard work is paying off. She is 22 and 3/4 inches long.
This month, Rose has spent lots of time with her grandmother, Jannie. I can't thank Janet enough for helping us so much during the last 4 weeks. Janet calls me almost every day to see if I want to get out for a few hours and I have certainly been taking advantage of her offers! She loves spending time with Rose and Rose loves spending time with her! Thank you so much for everything you have done for us! We love and appreciate you so much

A Little Request...

Hi blog readers!

I have gotten very curious about who is reading my blog. I can tell from the little tracker thing that I am getting readers from all across the country, and sometimes from other countries as well! If you are a reader of my blog, will you leave a comment to this post and "introduce" yourself? I know some of the people who read the blog because they make comments...THANKS! Its always fun to hear from you all! Please don't be shy either. I read people's blogs who I have never met and I think that is what this whole blogging thing is all about! Thanks in advance for introducing yourself! I can't wait to see who you are!

Weekend of Firsts

This weekend was the last weekend of hunting season in Alabama. I'm so excited that I won't have to say goodbye to my husband for a while but I know he is sad to see the season go so fast. Anyway, Clark left Friday morning on his quest for his last deer and Rose and I stayed home. We weren't alone though! I am way too new at this motherhood thing to try it by myself.
My wonderful sister and her baby Jay came to spend the night with us Friday night. We had so much fun with the babies. Jay loved playing on Rose's activity mat and Rose loved spending time in her Aunt Dana's arms.My wonderful mother in law, Janet, came to spend the night with us on Satuday. We had so much fun! Jannie kept Rose with her in the guest room and brought her to me when it was time to nurse, so I was very well rested on Sunday! Thank you soooo much Jannie! Rose and I loved spending time with you over the weekend. Sunday morning, Janet gave Rose her FIRST real bath! She loved it! Didn't cry a bit. I just love how a clean baby smells right after a bath. Clark came home in time for lunch on Sunday. We dressed Rose in a pretty dress that was worn by Aunt Gray and Aunt Jody many years ago. She looked adorable! We planned to spend the day (which was also my birthday!) celebrating special events with two of our friends.First, we went to Hollin's 1st birthday party. Rose slept the entire time and gave her Mama and Daddy time to catch up with friends.Hollin looked so cute! I just loved the little froggy outfit. Thanks AnnLee and Michael for including us in the party! Next, we headed to the river for our friends Brad and Wendy's son's bris. Parker and Rose were born 2 days apart! Uncle Joe Miller was so sweet and played lullabies for the babies. It was great to see everyone and we loved seeing Parker again! He is so precious.Aunt Sydnie and Rose Rose and me on my 27th birthday

3 Weeks Old

I know I will say this in every new post, but I can't believe Rose is already 3 weeks old! The last 3 weeks have gone by faster than any 3 weeks in my life. Rose is such a precious little baby and I am truly blessed she is mine! She hardly ever cries, gazes into our eyes, enjoys looking around at her new world, and sleeps alot! She makes me happier than I have ever been.

The first two weeks were a challenge in terms of nursing. We had to supplement with formula since she lost a little too much weight in the first days after we came home. After her weight check on the 19th, we eliminated the formula (thank goodness!) and solely nursed. Here are her weight stats so far.
January 12: 7 lb, 3 oz (birth weight)
January 15: 6 lb, 7 oz
January 19: 7 lb, 0 oz
January 23: 7 lb, 12 oz!
January 29: 8 lb, 4 oz!!!

Since we had been in the doctor's office so many times since her birthday, we went in for the 2 week checkup a little late. On January 29, she weighed 8 lb, 4 oz, measured 22 inches long, and her head circumference was 35.5 cm.

You can imagine how excited I was to learn that my baby is gaining weight so well! All of our hard work has certainly paid off. We were so lucky to be able to work with Eileen, the WONDERFUL lactation consultant at Springhill Medical Center. I made several frantic phone calls and visited her many times and I truly appreciate all of her advice and words of encouragement.

Happy 3 week birthday, Rose! We love you so much!!
